The highlight of our annual calendar in Oct/Nov each year is the Féile na Sollán Irish traditional festival. The festival includes a concert, lots of trad sessions, an expo of Irish traditional music instrument making, Irish trad music master classes, a céilí, a school competition, traditional workshops and sean nós dancing. Amongst the Irish language events we run arts & crafts for children, “bricfeasta as Gaeilge”, a family show, and storytelling for young children. Bígí linn!
Sult na Sollán organise special events during the course of the year. Recent events include sean nós dancing / céilí dancing workshops and family trad sessions in Sallins. As well as that, we run Irish language tours from time to time, to different places of interest in Leinster such as Brú na Bóinne/Newgrange, Co. Meath, Glasnevin Cemetery, The National Stud, Croke Park, and more.
“Cill Dara le Gaeilge” is a new scheme to promote business through the Irish language in Co. Kildare. The scheme provides support and information to local business that wish to provide services to their customers through the medium of the Irish language.
Co. Kildare has been recognised has the county with the largest growth rate of Irish language speakers in the country. According to the 2011 national census, more than 35,000 people speak Irish regularly in Co. Kildare and that number continues to increase with seven Gaelscoil agus an expanding Gael-Choláiste now in the county!
