Sult na Sollán is a community group that was set-up back in 2009 to promote Irish music, culture and the Irish language in Sallins, North Co. Kildare. We host a trad music sessions every month, run regular Irish language classes for adults, we host a "bricfeasta as Gaeilge" event every Saturday morning and we run special events from time to time, including workshops for all age groups and the occasional  road trip!

We host a trad sessions a month in Sallins each month with additional sessions on special occasions. There are tthree trad groups that play regularly in Salllins - Sult & Fonn Nua and our youth group, Sult Óg. Other musicians and singers are always welcome to join in in our sessions.

Sult na Sollán run two terms of Irish language classes for adults each year, starting in mid-September and in mid-January. The classes are held every Wednesday between 8- 9.00pm in Sallins National School

The highlight of our annual calendar in Oct/Nov each year is the Féile na Sollán Irish traditional festival. The festival includes a concert, lots of trad sessions, an expo of Irish traditional music instrument making, Irish trad music master classes, a céilí, a school competition, traditional workshops and sean nós dancing. Amongst the Irish language events we run arts & crafts for children, “bricfeasta as Gaeilge”, a family show, and storytelling for young children. Bígí linn!


Gaeilge Imeachtaí / Events

Sult na Sollán organise special events during the course of the year. Recent events include sean nós dancing / céilí dancing workshops and family trad sessions in Sallins. As well as that, we run Irish language tours from time to time, to different places of interest in Leinster such as Brú na Bóinne/Newgrange, Co. Meath, Glasnevin Cemetery, Leinster House, Croke Park, Aviva Statium and more.


Cill Dara le Gaeilge

“Cill Dara le Gaeilge” is a support scheme to promote business through the Irish language in Co. Kildare. The scheme provides support and information to local business that wish to provide services to their customers through the medium of the Irish language.


Co. Kildare has been recognised has the county with the largest growth rate of Irish language speakers in the country. According to the 2011 national census, more than 35,000 people speak Irish regularly in Co. Kildare and that number continues to increase  with seven Gaelscoil agus an expanding Gael-Choláiste now in the county!

Sult na Sollán’s Irish language committee are working on a language plan to promote the Irish language through Co. Kildare! This is an ambitous and challenging undertaking but we are hopeful that we will publish a five year langaueg plan for 2018 - 2023 during Seachtain na Gaeilge 2018.
